The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently extended an existing transition policy for non-ACA compliant plans through the end of 2018. The extension is available for individual or small group market plans meeting certain criteria. Insurers have the option to renew non-compliant coverage into 2018, not to exceed December 31, 2018. The goal of this approach is to ease the change from transitional coverage to Affordable Care Act-compliant coverage. For more information, view the February 23, 2017 letter from the CMS Center for Consumer Information & Insurance Oversight.
